This video highlights the importance of cytochrome P450s in academia and industry and explains how our research group broadens the substrate range of these biocatalysts through enzyme engineering. We showcase a typical high-throughput assay and describe our procedure for carrying out whole-cell biotransformations.
Prof. Nicholas Turner joined the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology in October 2004 and is the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Biocatalysis (CoEBio3). His research interests are in the area of biocatalysis with particular emphasis on the discovery and development of novel enzyme-catalyzed reactions for applications in organic synthesis, often employing directed-evolution technologies.
Elaine O’Reilly has been a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Nicholas Turner since 2010. Her research interests include the development of novel biocatalysts for the synthesis of important chiral building blocks. Paul Kelly is a PhD student working for Prof. Sabine Flitsch. His research focuses on engineering bacterial cytochrome P450s to broaden their substrate range. Anja Eichler started her PhD in the Turner/Flitsch group in 2012. Her research focuses on the development of a fluorescent high-throughput screen (HTS) for selective P450 oxidation reactions.
