Perspective on photochromic compounds

Prof. Neil R. Branda voices his opinion about photocromic compounds and molecular switches. He also talks about his experience of becoming an entrepreneur. The questions were prepared and asked by Prof. Burkhard König.

Neil R. Branda is a Professor of Chemistry and holds a Canada Research Chair in Materials Science at the Simon Fraser University, BC, Canada. He is also the Executive Director of 4D LABS, a research centre for advanced materials and nanoscale devices. His area of expertise includes molecular switches, photochromism and electrochromism, molecular recognition and supramolecular chemistry.
Prof. Burkhard König is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Regensburg, Germany. His current research interests focus on the development of synthetic receptors for the recognition of biological target structures and the application of visible-light chemical photocatalysis for organic synthesis.
